Omar is currently the Federal Member of Parliament for Mississauga Centre, as well as the Minister of Transport. He has previously served as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs (Consular Affairs), Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of International Trade Diversification, Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister (Public Service Renewal) and to the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs.
Omar is a graduate from Ryerson University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and holds an MBA from York University. Prior to serving in parliament, Omar has served in a variety of senior positions with General Electric Canada, Enbala Power, and the Ontario Energy Board. A long time community activist, he is very passionate about his involvement with local organizations and causes. He was a member of the community editorial board of the Toronto Star where he authored columns on a wide range of provincial and federal issues. Among his many of my activities, he has worked tirelessly to support initiatives that empower new Canadians through social and economic integration.
