Ruba El-Sayegh

Biography

Ruba El-Sayegh is a partner in the advocacy department of Gowling WLG. Her practice focuses on commercial and civil litigation as well as regulatory/administrative law with an emphasis on health law, medical defence and professional liability. She also practices in Embassy Law, serving as outside general counsel to foreign missions, ambassadors, and diplomats to Canada.

In this role, she advises clients on Canadian laws and regulations, immigration, diplomatic and consular law, state immunity, and private international law. Her clients include the Embassies of Qatar, Kuwait, UAE, Japan, Iraq, and Egypt. Ruba also heads the firm’s Arab States Desk. In this role, she oversees the firm’s business development strategy in the MENA region and explores business opportunities between Canada and the Middle East. She has been a proud supporter of the Canada Arab Business Council for several years.

As Gowling WLG’s leader of the Arab States Desk, she advocates for the sponsorship of many Canada Arab Business Council (CABC) initiatives. Ruba has been a proud promoter of Arab women entrepreneurs and leaders for a number of years. She organized and/or moderated two events called “Celebration of Arab Women Leaders”. Ruba is fluent in English and Arabic, and conversant in French.
