Dr. Ryan Wiley is President of Shift Health, which he has helped to grow into one of the most dynamic and trusted advisory teams within the health research and innovation ecosystem, with footholds in North America, Europe and the Middle East. Working with global leaders in the contexts of business, healthcare, science, policy and social justice, Ryan is committed to creating a healthcare future that’s collaborative, inclusive and person-centred.
Ryan has worked with the world’s largest biopharmaceutical and life sciences companies, for which he has supported product development, commercialization and market access strategies globally; non-governmental and philanthropic organizations, with which he has worked on impactful public‐private product development and public health partnerships in low- and middle-income countries; government departments and agencies, which have sought his advice on policy and funding strategies to empower health research and innovation; and academic institutions and hospital-based research institutes, for which he has helped to mobilize more than $1 billion for health R&D. Ryan is also deeply engaged in efforts to advance inclusion, diversity, equity and accessibility (IDEA) within the life sciences; among other advocacy and community-building activities, he and Shift Health are founding members of Building an Inclusive Life Sciences Future, in partnership with Life Sciences Ontario.
Ryan received his PhD in immunology from McMaster University, where he is now Adjunct Professor. He is Chair of Amref Health Africa in Canada, Policy Advisor to and Past Chair of Research Canada, Member of Life Sciences Ontario’s Annual Policy Forum Planning Committee, and a Director on the boards of the Canada-Arab Business Council and CanHealth International. Ryan received Research Canada's Leadership in Advocacy Award in 2019 and Life Sciences Ontario's Volunteer Award in 2022.
